Security Risk Hearing For Asylum Seeker Ahmed Zaoui Begins
AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND - JULY 9: Ahmed Zaoui heads for lunch during a break in the hearing by the Inspector General of Intelligence and Security reviewing his security risk certificate at Auckland Employment Court on July 7, 2007 in Auckland, New Zealand. Zaoui, an Algerian refugee and member of Algeria's Islamic Salvation Front, entered New Zealand without a passport and claimed asylum in 2002. He was issued a Security Certificate on March 20, 2003 and was imprisoned thereafter despite being deemed a geniune refugee by the Refugee Status Appeals Authority in the same year. The Security Intelligence Service wants him removed from the country for undisclosed security reasons.
